ReplyDeleteWidespread violence like war and genocide happens in third world countries to remove an opposing political leader to gain power for the new selected chief in charge. With increasing social, economic, and political pressures in those countries the majority group is quick to set a motion that will go against the minority grouping. Therefore these political movements for power result to violence with numerous deaths to civilians. And since the international leaders declined to step in to help challenge the legitimacy of the genocidal practices you can expect the cycle of hostility to continue.
ReplyDeleteAgreeing with Ben's comment, the widespread of violence like war and genocide happens only because the gain of power. There was and always will be a cycle of war because there is always that one person or group that feel a certain way about the government. Overthrowing them is the only way to make their statement clear. But in this article the Hutu had the power but got greedy with it, and as a result lost all to the Tutsi.
ReplyDeleteWidespread violence like war and genocide happens due to a long period of oppression. When a group of people have been mistreated by another group it causes a lot of tension and a need for change in order to gain freedom, equality or even sometimes over power the other and become dominant. For example, in the article it explains how the Tutsi were in power and over ran the Hutu ethnic group. In result to the inequality things became atrocious and the killing of one of the Hutu’s people only aggrandized the situation and the Hutu had no choice but to start a revolution, which caused the genocide that we know of. In conclusion genocide and war happens due to increasing rage of inequality and oppression from one group to another.

ReplyDeletewidespread violence like war and genocide happened because they were fighting over increased economic, social, and political pressures. Tutsi were accused of supporting a dominated rebel group.which caused a lot of tension, fear, and conflict between the countries after the hutu president was shot.
ReplyDeleteWide spread violence, war and genocide happen because of power and the indifference from the other country's leaders. The Hutu blamed the entire Tutsi population for it's countries problems Tutsi was only 14% of Rwanda's population and when the plane carrying President Habyarimana was shoot down it was just the right excuses for the Hutu to slater the Tutsi population.
ReplyDeleteWhy would they kill them? Why rape the woman and kill the children too? The Hutu wanted power and by showing the people what they were capable of doing everyone feared them even there own race because if they opposed in the killings of the Tutsi they were killed too. If the international leaders would have stepped in maybe this wouldn't have gone so far,but they didn't because of fear that there country would do the same and as leaders lose there power.
the main point of this artical is to spread awareness to the people. It was to tell everyone how the genocide began and why it started. The purpose is to spread the word to everyone about the genocide. The author used statistics to support the purpose.
